Monday

Today we did shelter-building in May-Beck Forest . It was great! We were bitten dozens of times by hordes of midges, but it didn’t stop us building the best shelter ever. As well as shelter-building we also learned how to survive in the forest i.e. how to track animals by their footprints, which plants are edible, and how to identify animals(again by their footprints.) When we got back everyone gave a nice pine cone to someone they thought had been a good team player. We are having a great time!

Thank you, Theodore and Joseph. They omitted to say that the weather is glorious and it is a beautiful evening. We had sweet and sour pork for tea and it was delicious. We are off to do some problem solving games now. 7.45 pm. Bye for now.

Tuesday 22nd June

Change of plan today: the seashore has been put off until Thursday because of tides. So, today’s guest bloggers, Jason and Roberto, will guide you through the joys of Tuesday.

Today we got up and went to get breakfast. Afterwards we went with our teacher outside and she talked us through the safety. We set off to somewhere near Egton bridge. We walked down the side of the river where we were going to crawl through little narrow gaps and get drenched in water. As we walked further on the water got deeper and there were more gaps to crawl and climb through. Later on in the activity walk we had to slide down rocks and we got soaking wet because we had to go across the river holding hands. There was a big rock on top of a another rock and our team had to slide down into the water. Our teacher was at the bottom and she pulled us out when we went under. We had to shout “water monkeys” at the tops of our voices. We had to go home drenched in the minibus. We all had dinner out side on the benches at East Barnby after a shower. Afterwards we went into a garage and as we stepped through the door everybody went “Wow that is a massive climbing wall!” We were sweating and we stank so we went for another shower, then we went for tea. The food was delicious. After tea we went to the tuck shop, and then we played football.

Crossing the river by forming a human chain.

Fortunately, no children were swept away!

Wednesday already! The sun shone brightly all day. Mrs Davies came out for the day while Mr Starr went to do some proper work. What else happened? Here are tonight’s guest bloggers: Georgia and Fleur….

Hi everyone! It has been sooooooooooo good we were up at 7.30 (not a good night sleep at all !!!!!!!!!!!! ) Me and Fleur (my best friend) breakfast was great too. I love it here but I am missing mum and dad and dogs and Alfie. Everyone is nice in my dorm: they are sooooo friendly. Hi it’s me Fleur I am having a great time. Today we did canoeing and I was in a boat with some really nice people. We saw a  seal. It was so cute. Roberto, Fleur and me got stuck in some trees and Fleur was screaming because she was at the back of the boat so she got hit the most. Soon we all got the hang of it but it did take some time then all of a sudden Fleur splashed me so I splashed her back and then she got me soaked so that turned in to a water fight!. We went down a weir and one of the groups smashed into a rock and nearly fell out. It was really funny. At the end we were racing the other people and I got soaking wet. When we got back Georgia gave me a piece of aero but it said ero because she had rubbed off the a.

Thursday

The sun shone on us again today for our day at the beach with the children from South Kilvington, studying the shoreline. Joseph and Roberto did a wonderful blog on this but unfortunately the computer shut itself down whiloe they were out watching the talent show and all their lovely work disappeared. So you'll have to make do with me instead. Here goes:

Here we are at Staithes, though we were told to pronounce it as the locals do: Steeathes! After walking down from the car-park to the harbour we stopped for a well earned ice-cream and did some works of art on the beach using anything we could find. We had to make a sea-monster and Theodore, Joseph, Leanne and Roberto won with their model of a Loch Ness-type monster, attacking a passing ship. It was fantastic! As you can see above, we then walked along the shore learning about the geology of the cliffs. We stopped by a large rock pool to eat our packed lunches, then waded in with nets to investigate, finding all sorts of marine creatures including hermit crabs, butter fish, sea hares and many more. It was fascinating. We then walked round to Port Mulgrave, stopping along the way to look for fossils. We found dozens, mainly ammonite and belemnite. We learnt about the jet mines and the ironstone mines. Then we had a long walk up the cliff.

It was hard work in the hot sunshine! We followed a path at the top of the cliff that took us across the fields back to Staithes. It had  been a wonderful day and we had learnt so much and had lots of fun.

On Thursday evening we all came together for a Grand Talent Show on the field, as it was such a lovely evening. All Saints was represented by Fleur, singing Alleluia, and Georgia, singing Consider Yourself. There were lots of talented acts and the winners were James from Baldersby and Marie from Alanbrooke, who were both astonishingly good. It was a great evening!
